The Lady Falcons 10 run ruled the Lady Jackrabbits on Monday night as they finished district play and started preparing for the upcoming 2015 Class 5A playoffs. The game ended by the 10 run rule, 11-1 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Freshmen Brooke Taylor doubled in Junior Alexis Watson shortly before rain settled in at North Forney High School.
The game started early Monday trying to get finished up before the rain and was actually a make-up game that was supposed to be played last Friday but was cancelled due to the weather.
The ballgame started out a defensive battle as neither team scored in the first two innings, compliments of good pitching by both pitchers and great defensive play as well. Finally in the bottom of the third inning the Lady Falcons put three runs on the board to open up a 3-0 lead. The Lady Falcons put 2 more on the board in the bottom of the fourth to up their lead to 5-0 after four innings.
Freshmen pitcher Andrea Decareau started on mound for the Lady Falcons and threw 4 scoreless innings. Another freshmen pitcher, Brooke Taylor pitched the top of the fifth allowing 1 run to score. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Lady Falcons erupted for 6 runs to end the game after Taylor’s double with two outs. The loss for the Lady Jackrabbits knocked them out of any chance for a playoff run this year.
For the regular season, the Lady Falcons amassed 20 wins against just 2 losses, ending district play with a record of 13-1 and were crowned District Champions for the second year in a row. This is the fourth District championship the Lady Falcons have won in just their sixth season of UIL play. Playoffs start later this week but the next opponent has not yet been determined as weather has caused delays for most teams in the area in finishing up district play.
