The City of Forney is proud to announce the selection of Jon Thatcher as the City’s new City Attorney. On August 2, City Council voted to appoint Thatcher to the position. Thatcher, who was interviewed on July 7 along with three other finalists, has nearly ten years of experience working with local governments.
Forney Mayor Rick Wilson stated, “Jon will bring a wealth of knowledge to the City of Forney. We look forward to Jon joining the staff and working with the City Council on important issues. I am also proud to welcome Mr. Thatcher and his family to our community and am excited to begin working with him later this month.”
Thatcher was selected through a competitive recruitment process facilitated by the firm of Strategic Government Resources (SGR). The city received 21 applications for the position. Minimum qualifications included being licensed to practice law in the state of Texas and having practiced in the state for at least five years.
Thatcher holds a juris doctor degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and a bachelor of arts in political science from Brigham Young University. He has served as the Assistant District Attorney, Civil Division Chief, for the County of Rockwall, Texas, since 2010, and also served as Assistant District Attorney from 2007 to 2009. He previously held the position of Associate Attorney for Wolfe, Tidwell & McCoy, LLP in Frisco.
“I am looking forward to working with the Forney community, City Council, and city staff to help the city accomplish its goals,” said Thatcher. “I will work hard to provide the City of Forney and its constituent’s professional legal services and sound legal advice.”
Thatcher is expected to start work on August 22.
