Friday afternoon February 17, 2017 is the deadline to submit a ballot application for the May 2017 General Election, and without doubt an interesting array of local politicians are seeking election to the Forney City Council and the Forney ISD Board of Directors.
Unchallenged at this point, Forney Mayor Rick Wilson will seek a second term in office and having fulfilled several campaign promises made during his 2015 campaign it seems highly likely that he will be re-elected for a second term as mayor.
Because Council Member Ray Stephens recently announced that he will not seek another term, two new political contenders, candidates Arron Ross and Shaun Myers, have submitted applications for election to the Place 2 council position.
Place 2 Candidate Aaron Ross is married with one child and is employed as a Texas State Trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Campaigning against Ross for the Place 2 council seat will be local Internet blogger, Shaun Myers, who according to the application he submitted is a self-employed business owner.
Since Candidate Myers candidacy was made public, The Post has received several emails from readers with documented proof that this candidate has been banned from several community websites due to vulgar and threatening language directed predominantly at women, the media and officials currently holding office in Forney.
Place 4 Council Member Scott Regan recently announced that he will not seek re-election to the council. However, in a very surprising political twist Regan has submitted an election application for the Place 1 position on the Forney ISD Board of Directors, and at this point, is campaigning unchallenged for that position.
Seeking to fill Regan’s Place 4 council seat will be three candidates; Jimmie Hanks, Kevin Moon and John Walker. All three candidates are brand new politicians, and the candidates have described their employment occupations as; Jimmie Hanks “Project Manager”, Kevin Moon “banking” and John Walker “Data Analysis”.
Place 6 City Council Member, David Johnson, will also seek re-election and at this point will be campaigning unopposed. And lastly, FISD Place 2 Board Member Greg Pharris will also seek re-election, unopposed.
