On Thursday night the Forney ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved $114,000 to purchase 250 new band uniforms for the Forney High School Marching Band for the upcoming school year.
Addressing the school board, FISD Chief Financial Officer John Chase said “Mario’s group recently got a quote or cost estimate for the uniform you see up on the screen.
We’d like to purchase 250 of those uniforms from Fred J. Miller and the total cost estimate would be $114,000.00.”
Explaining Chase said, “The reason we wanted to bring this to you now is because the lead time to get these manufactured and delivered could be up to 180 days, and so in order to have them here for the fall marching season we need to go ahead and get them ordered now.”
Seeking clarification, Trustee Scott Regan asked “Marion and John, did you say $114,000 for 250 uniforms. So that’s $456.00 per uniform. Mario is that normal?”
To which Fine Arts Director Mario Luna responded “Yes, and it’s been going up. We purchased North Forney an additional set of uniforms in April 2015. And the cost from when North Forney opened up and 2015 went up. It’s increased just because of the material, the wool fabric and all that.”
Director Luna briefly described the procedures the district already uses for assignment of uniforms to band members, and the manner in which the uniforms are cleaned and maintained throughout the school year.
The motion to approve the expenditure was made by Trustee Scott Regan and seconded by Trustee Barbara Jo Green, and all Trustees in attendance at this meeting voted their approval.
