Kaufman County Jurors Find James William Davis Guilty of Assault

On Thursday May 2, 2019, in the County Court at Law for Kaufman County, presided by the Honorable Tracy Gray, Kaufman County jurors found James William Davis guilty of Assault Causing Bodily Injury Continuous Violence against the Family.

The prosecution was led by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Phillip Williams and Jason Miller.  Davis was sentenced to twenty years in prison with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and court costs.

This sentence will run consecutively with a 25 years sentence Davis received for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault Family Violence Impleading Breath, which was handed down by jurors in the 422nd Judicial District Court, presided by the Honorable Michael B. Chitty.

The offense carried a punishment range of no less than two years and up to twenty years in prison with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. We would like to recognize the Kaufman County Sherriff’s Department and other state agencies that assisted with the prosecution of this case, and this sends a message loud and clear that a perpetrator of domestic assault will be held accountable for their crimes in Kaufman County.
