Forney ISD announced the 2019 Counselor of the Year recently. Brianne DeAnda, the counselor at Rhea Elementary School was recognized with the honor at the school on Friday, May 24.
DeAnda was nominated by the teachers and administrators at Rhea Elementary School for her outstanding support of the students at the school.
“Brianne dedicates so much time and effort to all of the students here at Rhea Elementary,” said Rhea Elementary School Principal Dr. Barbi Donehoo. “But she gives so much more than what’s required of her! She loves all of the students as if they were her own children. She is so kind and compassionate! She is such a blessing to have here at Rhea Elementary.”
DeAnda is one of 21 counselors in Forney ISD. School counselors assist students at all grade levels. From kindergarten to seniors in high school, they act as advocates for students’ well-being, and as valuable resources for their educational advancement. First and foremost, school counselors listen to students’ concerns. They know that every students’ home and social life is different and they know that sometimes they are the only person who can fulfill the students’ need at any given time.
