Council Appoints County Commissioner Phillips as Chair of Forney TIF Board

The Forney City Council recently appointed Kaufman County Commissioner Skeet Phillips to represent Forney as the Chair of their Tax Incentive Finance Board.

Addressing the council on Tuesday night, Forney EDC Director Warren Ketteman stated “As your staff liaison for the TIF Board I was present at the meeting on March 31, 2016, with the new TIF Board that was established, and six out of the seven members was present at that meeting. One of the other members, Commissioner Phillips, had a previous commitment and he contacted me and let me know me know he would not be able to attend.”

Forney Business Owner Challenges Penn for Place 5 Council Seat

Incumbent Place 5 City Council Candidate Mary Penn recently addressed a small group of Forney voters where she thoroughly explained the hierarchy she uses when making important council decisions.

Attending the Candidate Meet and Greet hosted by the Forney Chamber of Commerce, Council Member Mary Penn is seeking her fourth term as the Place 5 Council Member and is being challenged for the seat by Forney businessman Mark Safford.

Chamber Chairman Will Deny Voters Their Right to Question Candidates

In an effort to prevent the voters from questioning the incumbent candidate’s seeking election in the quickly approaching May General Election, Forney Chamber Chairman of the Board for 2016 Billie Kasper has concocted a “Meet the Candidate’s Night” in which the voters will not actually be allowed to speak, meet or question the candidate’s running for election to the Forney City Council or the Forney School Board.

Forney Council Begins Involuntary Annexation Process Against NextEra Energy

At last weeks’ City Council meeting, Interim City Manager Charles Daniels confirmed to the community that he officially notified NextEra Resource, LLC that city attorney’s Bell-Nunnally had discovered sufficient reasons to request nullification of the contract negotiated by former City Manager Brian Brooks.

Listed on the Councils’ official agenda as “discuss and consider possible annexation of NextEra Corportaton”, Interim City Manager Daniels briefly described the letter he wrote in early March 2016 to officials at the conglomerate electric facility.

Council Unanimously Disapproves Variance for Beer Store in Downtown Forney

Last week well over a hundred Forney residents packed City Hall for at least the third time in three months to express their opinions on the future of Forney. With a critical council election on the horizon, a proposed beer store in downtown was not a popular idea and many residents had no problem expressing themselves to the Forney City Council.

Facing a standing room only crowd, Mayor Rick Wilson opened the meeting to a required Public Hearing needed to discuss and consider a variance requested by local business owner, Rita Dispain.

Council to Discuss Adding "In God We Trust" Decals to All City Vehicles

On Tuesday night the Forney City Council will discuss several important action items during their bi-monthly meeting however none is more important than showing support for the Forney Police Department by displaying the community's collective religious belief.

Council Member’s Ray Stephens and Scott Regan have requested the Council consider approving a Resolution authorizing the use of the motto “In God We Trust” on all city owned vehicles, and reportedly a large majority of Forney residents support the idea.
