National Night Out was a Smash Hit for Grayhawk Community

With rainy weather threatening overhead, several hundred families from the Grayhawk neighborhood in Forney happily gathered within Classic Industries for National Night Out.

Recognizing that rainy weather would ruin their annual cook-out style block party, on Tuesday night the Grayhawk Homeowners Association chose to move their National Night Out festivities to Classic Industries located on FM 1641.

After Mayor Rick Wilson graciously agree to allow the Grayhawk HOA volunteers to set up their community inspired event in the Classic Industries manufacturing warehouse, a large group of volunteers arrived and quickly pulled together a really fun indoor event for the children of Grayhawk.

National Night Out is a nationwide campaign that promotes police and community partnerships. It’s designed to encourage neighborhood camaraderie and to enhance relationships between neighbors, and the residents of Grayhawk very obviously enjoy coming together.

Forney Police Chief Rob Sherwin and several Kaufman County Deputies were present throughout the event, as was State Representative Lance Gooden and Kaufman County DA Erleigh Wiley.

The families of Grayhawk seemed to really enjoy the cook-out dinner provided which included hamburgers, hotdogs, beans, salads, breads and lots of different kinds of homemade and store bought desserts.

Many families enjoyed visited with one another and with the many police and fire department personnel on-hand. And without doubt, the children attending made out like bandits. They received candy filled Grayhawk cups, snow cones, a bounce house and close up inspections of a Forney police car and fire engine.

And many of the children and adults attending also enjoyed the three very sweet and well behaved dogs which were brought to the event by the Friends of the Forney Animal Shelter.

Upon arriving, every Grayhawk family was presented with raffle tickets and at the end of the party a huge drawing was conducted with the assistance of Forney Mayor Rick Wilson.

About fifty very nice gift baskets full of toys, gourmet foods, cooking supplies, wines and gift certificates were given away along with a $200 cash grand prize.

A really Big Forney Post Hat’s Off goes out to all the Grayhawk HOA volunteers for a job really well done!
