At last week’s meeting, Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend and the members of the Forney City Council recognized the Forney Firefighters Combat Challenge Team for their outstanding finish in the 2017 Combat Challenge Team World Competition.
Acknowledging Forney’s Combat Challenge Team, Fire Chief Rick Townsend said “Let me get our group up here: Brian Leathers, Randal Morris, David Lawson, Josh Mosby and Russell Bannister.
Our Combat Challenge team, if you’re not familiar with that, it’s a firefighter event, as physical fitness event, more or less, that’s called the toughest two minutes in sports.”
Chief Townsend stated “These guys have become our Ambassadors of Good Will for Forney. This year’s World Finals took place in Louisville, KY with over 300 competitors representing over 50 departments and 12 countries. Our team competed hard all week against the best in the world and finished as one of the top 16 fastest relay teams with Russell Bannister finishing number 21 in the world. Our team finished 15th in the world. And one of our guys, Brian Leathers, received a Lion’s Den Award, is what it’s called. He ran a sub two minute event by himself.”
Townsend said “I’m truly proud of them. They went to Tyler this year for National’s and did really good down there. But everywhere they go, they spread the Forney that we’re from Forney and that it’s a good place to come. And I might cheat a little bit here, but it cost money so they need sponsors. So if you have any extra money. The Department does help out, we provide some funding for them but it does cost a lot of money. They go all over the nation to do these things, so we’re just real proud of them.”
A really big Forney Post Hat’s Off goes out to the FFD Combat Challenge Team on a job well done!
