With snow flurries on hand and carolers on the steps of the original Rockwall County Courthouse, thousands of area citizens enjoyed the Rockwall Hometown Christmas Celebration on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
Closing off only one side of the town square to through traffic, the retail shops and restaurants located in downtown Rockwall were packed throughout the day as families enjoyed the beautiful winter weather while eating outdoors and listening to a large selection of Christmas carols.
Hosted by the Downtown Rockwall Association of Businesses, the daylong event started with the annual Kiwanis Christmas Parade which had approximately one hundred parade entries which proclaimed a “Celebrating the Spirit of Rockwall” Christmas theme.
Starting at the Rockwall County Courthouse on Quorum Drive, the parade slowly made its way through town to conclude at the original Rockwall County Courthouse located on the historic town square, where hundreds of children excitedly greeted Santa Clause.
The children attending were provided free pictures with Santa, along with free hot cocoa and s’mores, face painting, Christmas tattoos, balloons, two bounce houses and rides down a “real ice” tubing slide.
A “Find Frosty” scavenger hunt was conducted, the Dallas Puppet Theatre preformed on the court house steps and many, many families enjoyed the Christmas performance of the Rockwall High School Orchestra.
Festival goers were witnessed lounging on the courthouse lawn and steps enjoying lunches purchased from a large variety of gourmet food trucks, while others patronized restaurant such as Zanata’s, Hunan Chinese Restaurant, Chill 360 and the Book Club Café.
