FYBA Celebrates Opening Day with Triple Pitch Ceremony

It was a beautiful morning to kick off little league baseball in Forney, and as usual the hardworking board members of the Forney Youth Baseball Association celebrated Opening Day at the Ballpark with pomp and ceremony.

Early on Saturday morning dozens of families gathered at the Mulberry Park Baseball Complex to support the teams of the FYBA as they celebrated Opening Day of the 2018 baseball season.

Master of Ceremonies Nate White said “We are very excited to kick off yet another fun filled season of youth baseball here in Forney. This season FYBA set an all-time new record with 1,050 players on 88 teams so parents thank you for allowing us to be a part of these young players’ lives.”

After the teams participating in Opening Day Ceremonies lined up, Colors were presented by the Trinity Valley Young Marines and the National Anthem was beautifully sung by North Forney High School senior Haley Cwigkala.

Opening baseball season in true style, three separate “first pitches” were cermonially thrown out to begin the season. First up was Criswell Elementary School student, Savannah Tarrant, who represented both the FYBA Angel League and March for Cerebral Palsy awareness.

The second pitch was thrown by Kaufman County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jakie Allen, who is currently in a run-off election for the County Judge position. And the final ceremonial pitch was thrown out by Forney High School sophomore Madison Galliano.

Master of Ceremonies Nate White said “For our last ceremonial pitch, I would like to invite the Galiano family onto the field. As many of you probably remember, the Galiano family suffered a tremendous loss when they lost their beautiful daughter, Emily Galiano, in a tragic accident in May of last year."

White said “First and foremost, the Galiano Family would like to say thank you to the Forney Youth Baseball Association for celebrating our daughter and sister, Emily Galiano and for supporting the Play For Em Foundation here on Opening Day. We also want to thank the community for putting their arms around us for the past 312 days and for supporting us as we continue to move forward one day at a time.”

It was announced that the Play For Em Foundation was founded in 2017 and is a charitable 501c3 organization that is focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. The mission of the foundation is to provide scholarships and assistance to our youth in the community in helping them realize their dreams and cement their legacy as they move forward with their lives.

In May 2018, the Play For Em Foundation will award six $1,000 scholarships as part of the Senior Awards process here in Forney.
