Forney Celebrates America’s 230th Birthday

On Saturday night thousands of area residents gathered within Forney’s Community Park in celebration of America’s 230th Birthday.

Traditionally celebrating the 4th of July on the Saturday before the holiday, the City of Forney Special Events department hosted a free Independence Day Celebration that packed the park with thousands of Forney residents as well as visitors from surrounding communities.

Children attending were treated to free face painting and train rides and everyone seems to really enjoy the large variety of foods available. At least a dozen food vendors sold hot dogs, tacos, barbeque sandwiches, sausage on a stick, Italian ice cream, corny dogs, nachos and more.

Braving the humid weather, families began streaming into the park at six o’clock to set up blankets, lawn chairs and coolers. The Splash Pad area and playground were packed with children, and the Forney Police Department very generously handed out free ice pops.

The City of Forney also gave away thousands of red, white and blue glow sticks, American Flags and flashing Lady Liberty star sticks. When the park lights went out hundreds of family’s glowed red, white and blue as they enjoyed an awesome array of fire work explode virtually overhead.
