Forney Community Ministries Provided Uniforms for 246 Students

Forney Community Ministries (FCM) held its first uniform give away at the First Presbyterian Church in Forney over this past weekend where the non-profit organization ultimately provided more than “246 students with 2,131 uniform pieces” for the quickly approaching school year.

Stopping by on the last morning of the three-day event, First Presbyterian Pastor David Ivey explained that this was the first time that FCM has held a uniform exchange event specifically designed to freely provide clean, gently used school uniforms to area students.

Forney Community Ministries (FCM) is a joint venture, non-profit 501(c) founded by First Presbyterian Church of Forney, Mike and Amanda Lewis and the Sharing the Love Foundation.

Earlier this month FCM began seeking volunteers to help inspect, hang, sort and organize uniforms for their first “School Uniform Exchange”, and while speaking with event volunteer Dana Curry it was discovered that as usual the citizens of Forney responded very generously by donating an abundance of uniforms.

Two rows of hanging uniform shirts, jumpers, slacks and jackets, as well as about seven full boxes of shorts, skirts and pants, separated by size, were available.

Parents and students were allowed five full uniform set’s, per student. And many, many families had three or more students in need of school clothes.

Formerly known as “the Forney ISD Clothes Closet”, the FCM “School Uniform Exchange” has an expressed desire to serve any student in need of school uniforms, therefore no families are denied assistance regardless of where they reside.

Families in need of school uniforms were simply asked to complete a very brief student registration form that asked for the students name and age, and the name of the school they will be attending this school year.

According to Pastor David Ivey “The entire objective of Forney Community Ministries is to serve the needs of the families in Forney and the surrounding area”.

Clearly achieving their objective, a really big Hat’s Off goes out to all the families who donated uniforms and to all the volunteers that stepped up for these students!
