Forney Education Leadership Foundation Provides FISD Teachers with Innovative Grants

On Tuesday night Forney Education Leadership Foundation Executive Director Kate Kiereleber provided the Forney City Council with a presentation on the many advantages the FELF is providing students in the Forney ISD.

Addressing the council Kate Kiereleber said “I’m delighted to be here. We are going into our fifteenth year and a lot of people in Forney still don’t know who we are. So we’re very excited to come here tonight because this year, we’re all about community awareness.”

Detailing the services provided by the Forney Education Leadership Foundation she said “We were founded in the 2003-2204 school years by five local businessmen that wanted to have something greater than a Forney graduate, and started with a $500.00 scholarship that was offered to every graduating senior of Forney ISD.”

Director Kiereleber said “Since that year we have awarded more than $2 million dollars in scholarship which is very exciting for the foundation. And then in 2008 we transition to a teacher innovated grant program. So what we do in that program is the teachers put in for grants that go up before our committee and since that time we have given away $480,000. 00 in innovative teaching grants.”
