On Thursday afternoon the Forney Firefighter Combat Challenge Team was honored as “Citizens of the Year 2018” at the 32nd Annual Forney Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet.
Hosting their annual Membership Meeting and Banquet at the First United Methodist Church in Forney approximately two hundred local business owners, members, guests and friends of the Forney Chamber enjoyed a delicious roast beef lunch catered by Alfredo’s Steakhouse.
Kicking off the banquet, Chairman of the Board Ryan Kile first individually recognized the Chamber Board of Director’s and then called upon City Bank President Bruce Bynum to announce the recipient of the 2018 Helping Hand of the Year Award.
Addressing the large crowd, Bruce Bynum said “For those of you who don’t know her, Dana Curry, often works behind the scenes. She’s active in the community and she’s also worked twenty-seven years for the Forney ISD.”
Describing Dana Curry’s many accomplishments, Bynum said “She’s been a teacher, administrator, principal and currently she’s the FISD Partnership Coordinator. She’s also involved in church groups, the retired educators group and the PTO. Dana has a passion for two things, people and Forney. But it goes beyond that, she has a passion and a calling. She serves on the Forney Education Foundation Board, with the Lion’s Club, Forney Community Ministries and she’s the Treasurer for the Emergency Services District. So this lady stay’s busy.”
Long time Chamber Board Member Susan Seabolt next announced the coveted 2018 Citizen of the Year Award.
Seabolt said “Always projecting uplifting attitudes, the 2018 Forney Firefighter Combat Team consists of Brian Lathers, Russell Bannister, David Lawson, Josh Mosley, Thomas Burrows and Damien Miller. Showcasing Forney on a world-wide stage, these individuals have represented our community in an uplifting manner for nine years by dedicating their personal time and energy to achieving a national ranking for our city amongst some of the top fire fighter teams in the United States.”
Describing the Firefighters Combat Team most recent accomplish, Seabolt said “In November 2018 the Forney Combat Challenge Team competed in the Firefighter Combat Challenge World Competition where they were awarded a national ranking as the 6th Best Team, of the 40 teams competing in representation of 12 different countries. Several of Forney’s team members broke individual records during the annual competition, and several have now been inducted into the sports highly coveted Lion’s Den which distinguished them as some of the fastest firefighters in the United States.”
On behalf of the Forney Chamber of Commerce, Seabolt stated “It is with great pleasure that we present the 2018 Citizen of the Year Award to the Forney Firefighters Combat Challenge team.”
Following both award presentations State Representative Keith Bell presented each of the award recipients with a special recognition from the State Capital of Texas.
