North Forney Wins on Senior Night vs. Sulphur Springs 39-24

On Senior Night, the North Forney Falcon varsity football team gave their seniors a nice parting gift with a solid 39-24 victory over playoff bound Sulphur Springs.

With the victory, North Forney finishes their 2018 season at 4-6 overall and 3-5 in District 8-5A play. Sulphur Springs, who will be playing in the playoffs next week, finishes the regular season at 7-3 overall and 5-3 in District 8-5A action.

Early on, North Forney scored a touchdown on their very first drive of the game. In five plays, they marched 75 yards to the end zone. The touchdown came on a 3-yard pass from Jacob Acuna to Cory Johnson. Another key play on this drive was a 26-yard pass from Mr. Acuna to Mr. Chris Bellamy. After the PAT Kick from Carlos Rodriguez, North Forney led 7-0 at the 10:45 mark of the 1st quarter.

However, Sulphur Springs would respond right back with a 6 play 83-yard TD drive of their own to tie the game at 7-all. The TD came on a 2-yard run by Caden Davis. Two other key plays on this drive were a 33-yard run by Da’Korian Sims and a 28-yard pass from D’Corian Young to Landry Tyson.


 Then, on the ensuing kickoff, the North Forney return man fumbled the football on the 1-yard line. As he picked up the loose football, he retreated into the end zone. Unfortunately, that is where he was tackled by several Sulphur Springs players for what turned out to be a safety. So, at the 7:55 mark of the 1st quarter, Sulphur Spring now led 9-7 after the safety. Also, after the safety, Sulphur Springs got the ball back via a free kick from North Forney.

After the free kick, Sulphur Springs marched 56 yards in 6 plays for another TD. The TD came on a 9-yard run by Da”Korian Sims. Following this TD, the Sulphur Springs’ holder on the PAT try fumbled the football. However, he picked the ball up and ran it into the end for a two-point conversion. So, after this two-point conversion, Sulphur Springs now led 17-7 at the 5:29 mark of the 1st quarter.

At this point in the game, Sulphur Springs looked to be in total command, But, North Forney was about to flip the script of this game.

Early in the 2nd quarter, after a missed field goal by Sulphur Springs, North Forney began a drive from their own 20-yard line. From there, they marched 74 yards in 7 plays before the drive was halted at the Wildcats’ 6-yard line. Then, Carlos Rodriguez came on the field and booted through a 23-yard field goal which made the score 17-10 at the 8:17 mark of the 2nd quarter. A key play on this drive was a 45-yard pass from Jacob Acuna to DeJuan Johnson.

Then later in the 2nd quarter, after just a 20-yard Sulphur Springs punt, North Forney started a drive at the Wildcats’ 41-yard line. On the only play of this drive, Jacob Acuna threw a 41-yard TD pass to Cory Johnson. After the PAT by Carlos Rodriguez, this game was now tied at 17-all.

Also, in the final seconds of the first half, the Falcons’ Antorius Hambric intercepted a Sulphur Springs pass and returned it to the Wildcats 25-yard with 34 seconds remaining. However, North Forney was unable to score on this occasion. So, at half time, this game was tied at 17-all.

Then, early in the 3rd quarter, North Forney ‘s defense caused another huge turnover. On the play, the Falcons’ Tre Barksdale picked up a Sulphur Springs fumble and he then proceeded to race 55 yards back the other way for a TD. After this TD, the Falcons tried for a two-point conversion and they ultimately were successful. So, now, North Forney led 25-17 at the 10:11 mark of the 3rd quarter.

Later in the 3rd quarter, after another Sulphur Sprigs punt, North Forney started off on what would be a 4 play 81-yard TD drive. The TD came on a 32-yard pass from Jacob Acuna to Chris Bellamy. So, now the score stood at 32-17 in favor of North Forney at the 1:59 mark of the 3rd quarter.

Also, in the final seconds of the 3rd quarter, North Forney fumbled the football and Sulphur Springs recovered it at the Falcons’39-yard line. A short time later, the Wildcats would complete this drive via a 9-yard TD run by Colton Allen. This TD cut North Forney’s lead to 32-24 at the 10:29 of the 4th quarter.

However, the Falcons would answer back with one more TD which would seal the deal and ultimately secure victory for the home team. The TD capped off a 5-play 65-yard drive. The TD play was a 43-yard run by Ty’Rondric Collins. This TD made the final score 39-24 in favor of North Forney.
