Kaufman Escapes with 28-26 Victory over Forney High School

Kaufman High School stopped a potential game-tying two-point conversion try in the final minutes of this game by Forney High School to escape with a narrow 28-26 victory.

With this victory, Kaufman, who will be playing in the playoffs next week, finishes the 2018 regular season at 8-2 overall and 6-2 in District 8-5A play. Forney High School finishes their 2018 season at 3-7 overall land 3-5 in District action. However, here is a stat to think about. Forney lost 5 games this season that were decided by 5 points or less. So, if the Rabbits had gotten a few more breaks to go their way, they could have been in the playoffs.

In this game, Kaufman jumped out to a 21-7 half time lead thanks to three first half touchdown runs from their starting quarterback Trey Collier. His touchdown runs covered 3, 1, and 26 yards respectively. For the game, Collier rushed 13 times for 105 yards and 3 TD. Mr. Collier also passed for 62 yards in the game as well.
Forney’s only points in the first half came on a 21-yard TD Run by Sean Stephens.

So, Forney was down at half time. However, the Rabbits would fight back. In the 3rd quarter, Forney’s Matthew Huffman kicked two successful field goals from 21 and 40 yards respectively to cut Kaufman’s lead to 21-13.

But in the 4th quarter, Kaufman got a 6-yard TD Run from Billy Pullen to increase their lead to 28-13.

But, Forney kept battling to the end. First, Campbell Anderson connected on an 83-yard TD pass to Sean Stephens which made the score 28-20.

Then in the final minutes, Forney put together one more frantic drive. At the end of this drive, Mr. Sean Stephens scored on a 13-yard TD run which made the score 28-26. So, now Forney had to go for a two-point conversion in order to get the game tied. But, their attempt was unsuccessful. So, Kaufman was able to escape with the victory.
