Falcon Basketball Teams Roll Past Jackrabbits

On Friday February 1, the North Forney Falcon varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams rolled to victories over the Forney Jackrabbits by counts of 47-21 and 56-31 respectively.

Girls Game: North Forney 47 Forney High School 21

In this game, 11 different Lady Falcon players scored points as North Forney easily defeated Forney High School.

After a sluggish first quarter of play by both teams, North Forney found themselves in front by the narrow margin of just 6-3. But then, in the second quarter, the Lady Falcons dominated the action in every phase of the game. They outscored the Lady Rabbits 23-1 in the frame to stretch their advantage to a game high 25 points at 29-4 by half time.

After building that huge lead, North Forney was able to coast home to the winner’s circle in the 2nd half.

With the victory, North Forney improves to 21-10 overall and 9-2 in District 13-5A play. Forney High School falls to 4-8 in District action.


North Forney has already clinched a playoff spot. The Lady Falcons do have one more District 13-5A game to play on February 5th vs. West Mesquite. Forney High School has completed their regular season. However, the Lady Rabbits are still in the hunt for the last playoff spot depending on what happens during Tuesday night’s action.

Boys Game: North Forney 56 Forney High School 31

In the first quarter of this game, both teams found it very hard to put the ball in the basket. In fact, the first point of this game did not come until the 4:24 mark of the period. At the end of the first quarter, Forney High School was in front by a count of only 3-2.

But, then over the next two quarters of play, North Forney outscored Forney High School by a count of 47-17 which ultimately put this game in the win column for the Falcons.

Overall, North Forney had two players score in double figures during this game. Those players were Xavier Thornton (18 points) and Jawuan Turner (10 points).

Here is a key stat for this game. North Forney won the rebounding battle by a count of 40-30.

With the victory, North Forney improves to 5-4 in District 13-5A play. Forney High school falls to 3-26 and 0-10 respectively.

With three games left in the regular season, North Forney finds itself right in the thick of the playoff race. In fact, if the season ended today, North Forney would be in the playoffs.

However, there is still some work to do to secure that coveted playoff spot.
