Jackrabbits Defeat Lovejoy in Big Non-District Game

On Saturday, April 27, in another big “playoff warmup” non-district game, the Forney Jackrabbit baseball team defeated highly regarded Lovejoy High School by a count of 3-2.

With this victory, Forney improves to 20-9-1 overall on the season. Lovejoy falls to 21-9.  Both of these teams have already clinched playoff berths.

Lovejoy built a 2-0 lead in this game thanks to plating a couple of runs in the top of the 5th inning due to a RBI single to center and an error by Forney.

The score would stay at 2-0 until the bottom of the 7th inning. To begin this frame, Nate Fitzgerald singled to right field. Then, Will Morgan came up to the plate and belted a dramatic 2 run homer to left field which tied the game at 2-all. This game was now headed into extra innings.

Then in the top of the 8th, Forney halted a Lovejoy scoring threat thanks in large part to a key double play.

Finally, in the bottom of the 8th, Sean Stephens started things by getting hit by a pitch. Then, a pickoff attempt by the Lovejoy pitcher was thrown away and Mr. Stephens raced around to third base. That set the stage for Campbell Anderson to be the hero. Mr. Anderson won the game for Forney with a RBI sacrifice fly to center.

On the mound for Forney, a group of pitchers combined to limit Lovejoy to just 2 runs on 8 hits. The pitchers in this game for the Jackrabbits were Cesar Eguia, Austin Ream, Chandler Odom, Campbell Anderson, and Will Morgan.

The Forney Jackrabbit baseball team (20-9-1) will face Midlothian High School in a Best of 3 Bi-District Playoff Series.

Also, the North Forney Falcon Baseball Team (19-8-2) will face Corsicana High School in a Best of 3 Bi-District Playoff Series.
