Lady Falcons Capture Bi-District Playoff Title

On April 25-27, the North Forney Lady Falcon Softball Team squared off against Red Oak in a Bi District Playoff Series.

When the dust had settled, the Lady Falcons won this playoff series by a count of 2 games to one.

With these playoff victories, the Lady Falcons can call themselves Bi District Playoff Champions.

The results of the games in this playoff series are as follows.

Game 1: Red Oak 11 North Forney 5

Game 2: North Forney 6 Red Oak 5

Game 3: North Forney 9 Red Oak 6.

After this playoff series, North Forney’s overall record stands at 17-9-1.

Game 1: Red Oak 11 North Forney 5 (@ Red Oak)

In this game, Red Oak took command early as they raced out to a 7-0 lead after three full innings. From there, the Lady Hawks coasted home for the victory.

For the Lady Falcons, some of their best players in this game were Alyssa Gaidos (2 Hits and 2 RBI’s), Bailey Willoughby (1 RBI), Brianna Acosta (1 Hit and 1 RBI), and Hayeli Acosta (2 Hits and 1 RBI).

 

Game 2: North Forney 6 Red Oak 5 (@North Forney)

In this game, with their season on the line, North Forney plated three early runs—2 in the first inning and 1 in the second to build a 3-0 advantage.

These runs came home via a RBI double to left by Bailey Willoughby in the first, an error by Red Oak in the first, and a RBI fielder’s choice ground ball by Brianna Acosta in the second respectively.

Red Oak trimmed North Forney’s lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth courtesy of a RBI ground out and a passed ball by North Forney respectively.

But, in the bottom of the 4th, the Lady Falcons increased their lead to 6-2 via a RBI double to right by Brianna Acosta and a 2 Run Homer to Left by Bailey Willoughby.

In the top of the 5th, Red Oak cut North Forney lead to 6-3 thanks to a RBI double center.

Then, in the top of the 7th and final inning, Red Oak narrowed North Forney’s advantage to 6-5 thanks a 2 RBI single to right. Later in this inning, after this big hit, Red Oak got two runners on base with one out. However, the Lady Falcons’ pitcher Savannah Gunn registered the final outs of the game on a ground out and a pop out. So, North Forney hung on to win this game. This series was now headed to a 3rd and deciding game.

 

Game 3: North Forney 9 Red Oak 6 (@ Red Oak)

In this winner take all playoff game, North Forney built an early 4-0 lead due to scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. The runs in this frame were plated via steal of home by Brianna Acosta, a RBI single to center by Savannah Gunn, a 2 Run Homer to Right by Riley Borton.

But, Red Oak answered back immediately by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. These runs were produced via a 3 run Homer to center. So, now the score was 4-3 in favor of North Forney.

Then, in the bottom of the 5th, Red Oak tied the game at 4-all thanks to a RBI single to right.

However, North Forney would explode for five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-4 lead.

Here is a recap of how these important runs were scored.

After Deana Brumfield walked to begin this inning, Brianna Acosta, Bailey Willoughby, and Alyssa Gaidos, smacked back to back to back home runs which made the score 8-4. Acosta’s home run was a 2-run shot to center while Willoughby’s and Gaidos’s home runs were solo shots to left and center respectively.

Later in this same inning, Hayeli Acosta upped North Forney’s lead to 9-4 when she produced a RBI sacrifice fly to left. After this inning, North Forney looked to be in total control of the game.

But, Red Oak kept fighting to the end. First, the Lady Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the sixth which cut the Lady Falcons lead to 9-5. This run came home via a RBI sacrifice fly to right.

Then in the bottom of the 7th, Red oak scored their last run on a fielder’s choice ground ball. So now the score was 9-6 in favor of the Lady Falcons.

After this run was scored, Red Oak got the bases loaded with two outs. Thankfully, Savannah Gunn registered the final out of the game and the series when she induced a ground out to 2nd.

So, now with the Bi-District Playoff Trophy in hand, North Forney is moving on in the playoffs!!!

In the Area Playoff Round, North Forney will face off against state ranked Hallsville in a best of 3 series.
