On April 24-25, the Forney Jackrabbit boys golf team competed in the Class 5A Region II Golf Tournament.
On the first day of the tournament, play time on the course was shortened due to heavy rainfall. In fact, the players were only able to play 9 holes of golf on that first day of action.
But, then to make up for the poor weather on that first day, the players got to play 27 holes of golf on the 2nd day of the tournament. So, the teams ended up playing officially 36 holes of golf during the two-day tournament.
The Forney Team which consisted of Cason Whitworth, Justin Morris, Zane Syjansky Luke Preston, and Austin George finished 14th in the final team standings at the tournament. Note: There were 16 teams that qualified to the Class 5A Region II Boys Golf Tournament.
Forney High School’s Head Golf Coach Mr. Chris Syjansky had the following remarks to say about the performances of his teams at their respective regional tournaments. “The boys and girls competed very well in the toughest region for high school golf in the state, maybe even in the nation. All of the golfers dealt with wind, rain, flooded courses, and difficult set ups.
All of these conditions made for long and demanding tournaments. These young men and women need to be commended for their efforts during the Regional Tournaments and throughout the year.”
