On April 26-27 a handful of Forney ISD athletes competed at the UI: Class 5A Region II Track and Field Meet.
For Forney ISD, the head line performance at the Regional Meet was turned in by Forney Lady Rabbit sophomore Bracie Vaughn.
At the Regional Meet, Bracie competed in the 100 Meter Hurdles event. The tough field that she ran against in this event included the defending state champion from Frisco High School.
During the Regional Meet race, Bracie finished 3rd in a new personal best time of 14.55 seconds. It also should be noted that a girl from Lancaster High School won the Regional Meet race while the defending state champion from Frisco High School came in 2nd.
So, let me explain how Bracie qualified to the State Track and Field Meet. Ms. Vaughn posted the best 3rd place time throughout all of the 5A Regions (Regions 1-4) in the 100 Meter Hurdles event.
By doing that, Ms. Vaughn punched her ticket to the UIL State Track and Field Meet as a State Meet Wild Card in this event. Note: The State Track and Field Meet is scheduled to be held at the University of Texas in Austin on May 10-11.
Over the last 15 years, I have been very fortunate to cover some great Forney ISD athletes who qualified to the State Track and Field Meet. Those athletes are Kiana Hawn, Lauryn Barrientos, Caylon McMillan, Nicole Oberle, Kara Hyde, Chandrell Stephens, Jordan Wilson, Erin Cluiss, Katy Hanie, Dennis Yeats, Landon Hartwick, Josh Taylor, Kris Hodge, Austin Williams, Luis Perez, Kyle Garcia, Norris Floyd, Ezra Roberson, Hunter Hartley, and now Bracie Vaughn.
Bracie will run in the 100 Meter Hurdles State Meet race on Friday, May 10th at approximately 6:30 p.m. Best of luck to Bracie indeed.
Other Forney ISD athletes who competed at the Regional Track and Field Meet were North Forney Falcon Roderick Brown (5th in the Boys Discus—Best Throw: 152’1”), Forney lady Rabbit Madeline Milby (11th in the Girls Discus—Best Throw: 1100’1”), and Forney Lady Rabbit Mckinley Tipton (12th in the Girls High Jump Best Height Cleared: 4’10”.
