The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public meeting for proposed improvements to I-20 from Lawson Road to CR 138 (Wilson Road) in Dallas and Kaufman counties.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on September 12, 2017 at Forney High School, 1800 College Avenue in Forney.
Representatives from TxDOT and project consultants will be available to answer questions about the project. Displays and project information will be presented at the public meeting in an informal open house format.
The improvements to I-20, a distance of approximately 20.4 miles, would add continuous one-way frontage roads in both eastbound and westbound directions from Lawson to CR 138. The frontage roads would consist of a 12-foot wide inside lane and a 14-foot wide shared outside lane.
A five-foot wide sidewalk will be included in the eastbound and westbound directions behind the back of the curb. The proposed improvements would also include the reconstruction and relocation of existing exit and entrance ramps from Lawson to CR 138.
The existing I-20 interchanges would be reconstructed to accommodate cross street improvements. Approximately 170 acres of right of way is anticipated for the project.
The project cost is approximately $540 million and is anticipated to begin in 2027 or later. The start date and cost is subject to change based on availability of funding.
