Local Hospital Makes Big Donation to Forney Food Pantry

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Sunnyvale recently donated more than 16,800 servings of cereal to the Forney Food Pantry. This community effort was hosted by the hospital to provide area children struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during its Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive.

Federal Judge Sides with City of Dallas over Banning Pornography Expo

A federal judge ruled in favor of the City of Dallas following its decision to ban a pornography convention from being hosted at a city-owned convention center. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Dallas Citizens Council filed an amicus brief earlier this month in support of the city.

“We are pleased with this ruling,” Attorney General Paxton said. “I was happy to join the Dallas Citizens Council in this effort that allows the city of Dallas to be a place where businesses can continue to flourish.”

Texas Asks Court to Halt Imposition of Drastic Regional Haze Regulations

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently announced the state has requested a stay preventing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from imposing draconian new regulations until after a Texas lawsuit challenging the new rules is decided in court. Texas filed suit against the EPA in February after it rejected Texas’ 7-year-old proposed revision to its State Implementation Plan (SIP) for reducing regional haze.

In an ongoing effort to enhance state roadways and improve safety, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) approved a $22 million dollar contract to provide safety shoulders, bridge replacement and pavement improvements on FM 1388 and FM 2860.

The projects include replacing the bridge and relief on FM 1388 at King’s Creek, adding three-foot safety shoulders on FM 1388 from US 175 to FM 148

Five Texas Hospitals Purchased in Baylor Scott & White Health Joint Venture

Baylor Scott & White Health and Tenet Healthcare Corporation (THC) have completed the previously announced joint venture to own five hospitals in North Texas.

The facilities included are Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas Regional Medical Center at Sunnyvale and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Garland.

State Water Rights Permit Issued for Lower Bois d’Arc Creek

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) achieved a historic milestone for the Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir (LBCR) with issuance of a water rights permit from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on June 26, 2015. It is the first uncontested water rights permit issued by TCEQ for a major reservoir in the last 50 years, and one of the first uncontested inter-basin transfers of water.
